AMC, the theater chain that was saved by retail buyers, is working with Sony Pictures to offer NFT gifts to early ticket buyers for the latest Spiderman movie. Those who purchase tickets for the movie premiere will receive gift NFTs along with their ticket purchase. It will only be offered to those using AMC’s various subscriptions in the app which are Investor Connect, Premiere, and AMC Stubs A-List.
Details Of The NFT Gifts
AMC plans to issue the NFT gifts on the Wax blockchain. There will be a limited release of just 86,000 NFTs. These NFTs will be for those who buy tickets to the premiere of Spiderman: No Way Home, the latest Spiderman movie from Sony. According to the announcement by AMC, the sale for the tickets began yesterday for the December 16 premiere.
It represents the first time that AMC has entered the NFT space. The move is especially significant since it is taking place on the back of one of the most successful franchises in the movie industry. It could be a test pilot by the theater chain to get moviegoers to fill theaters after a long hiatus caused by COVID19.
While discussing the NFT giveaway, the CEO of the AMC, Adam Aron stated that AMC Theatres’ guests and AMC Entertainment shareholders had been calling for AMC to enter the NFT space. He added that they could not have imagined a more perfect way than to do so with Sony Pictures.
While it is the first time that AMC is entering the NFT space, the studio has flirted with the idea of accepting crypto recently. In October, the CEO Adam Aron said that the company was “getting hyperactive” regarding crypto. AMC is one of the most famous “meme stocks” that was saved by retail investors from bankruptcy. Since then, the company’s leadership has been working to come up with products for its young investors, who hold most of the company’s stock.

AMC is promoting the Spiderman NFT as “Eco-Friendly.” It means that the Wax blockchain is energy efficient. Creators of the Wax blockchain claim that it is carbon neutral. The blockchain was built with NFT in mind from the ground up, which makes it easy for brands and platforms to launch products on the Wax Network.
Wax Network has already partnered with various renowned brands and personalities. For instance, in July 2020, Wax Network partnered with Star Trek star William Shatner to launch crypto collectibles. The NFTs were an instant hit and they sold out quickly. In November 2020, Atari, the renowned video game maker, also launched collectibles on the Wax Blockchain, which were an instant hit with fans.
Thus far, the network supports over 15 million transactions daily at a fraction of the cost and energy used by its competitors. To come up with their NFTs, AMC worked with Cub Studio to create the artistic design for them. Over 100 models will be designed for release to moviegoers by AMC.
