South Park returned on air for its 25th season on February 2, 2022, and one of its first celebrity targets this season was Matt Damon. The award-winning actor has been widely ridiculed online in recent days for his appearance in a crypto ad. In the ad, Matt Damon compares a crypto investor to some of the biggest achievements of humanity. In the ad, Damon states “fortune favors the brave.”

South Park Mocks Matt Damon

In the new episode for South Park called “Pajama Day,” Damon was mocked for his appearance in the ad. Eric Cartman appears in a scene where he is trying to encourage the class to fight against the principal’s decision to ban pajamas.

In the scene, Cartman says,

“What does Matt Damon say in the Bitcoin commercial? Fortune favors the brave!”Clyde responds to Cartman and says, “My dad said he listened to Matt Damon and lost all his money.”

It is not the first time the creators of South Park have mocked the crypto industry. They have previously taken swipes at the crypto sector and NFTs in recent South Park Paramount Plus films. In a previous episode that was released in 2021 called “Post COVID,” South Park mocks a future where only Bitcoin and other coins are accepted as currency.

Besides South Park, Bitcoin, and crypto have made an appearance on various popular shows. For instance, it appeared in the popular TV shows “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” on the American comedy-drama “Shameless,” and “Jeopardy,” a popular television game show.

Why It Matters

South Park is one of the most popular sitcoms in the US today. It has become extremely relevant in pop culture ever since it was created in 1997. In the past 24 years, the show has aired over 300 episodes. A mention of crypto in the episode is most likely going to generate conversation around the leading crypto coin.

For a young budding sector like the crypto world, gaining publicity is good. It helps to spread the word about crypto, and people can then take time to get educated on the subject. While the crypto industry has grown a great deal, there is still a lot of room for growth since adoption remains low.

The crypto industry is more streamlined today, and finding genuine places to trade crypto is no longer a major challenge. Unlike in the past, there are many regulated crypto exchanges where new traders can find useful information to guide them into the crypto sector.
