Hackathon Participants To Compete for a $13,000 prize pool

If the last ten years have taught us anything, it’s that blockchain technology is constantly evolving. From immutable peer-to-peer payment networks to programmable smart contacts and decentralized finance, blockchain has the potential to change the world in a way that’s never happened before. But blockchain is about more than just the technology. It’s also about the community.

Bitcoin Pizza Day wouldn’t be a thing unless the relevant communities existed, so Laszlo Hanyecz could find someone to pay 10,000 BTC to bring him two pizzas. They facilitate discussions, educate new users and, sometimes, spark global innovation.

A strong community is important for any movement, and to help strengthen the blockchain community further, Octaloop has been actively conducting meetups, interviews, and events to keep its 5000+ member strong community in the loop. Earlier this year, they conducted The Road to Metamorphosis, a virtual summit featuring discussions with prominent names like Emin Gün Sirer, Bobby Ong, and Nicholas Cary.

In their efforts to continue building larger communities and spark more innovation, Octaloop is conducting The Road to Metamorphosis II on August 29, with more speakers, mentors, and panel discussions than before. The event also features a week-long blockchain-based hackathon, DecentralHacks, where participants can compete for a $13,000 prize pool.

A Virtual Summit – The Road to Metamorphosis II

The goal of the summit is to bring like-minded people together to facilitate discussions on the current and future state of the industry. The Road to Metamorphosis II will present speaker sessions and panel discussions on topics like blockchain technology, cryptography, cryptocurrencies, DeFi, and more.

The summit will also enable participants to interact with various experienced mentors through the mentor sessions. These sessions will be on a myriad of different topics, such as interoperable blockchain networks, the technology behind these protocols, and tips for the hackathon.

Speaking of the hackathon, DecentralHacks will also feature sessions on the various blockchains and developer tools available, to help even absolute beginners get started. Further, there are Track Prizes in categories like Healthcare, Education, FinTech, and Open Innovation.

Prizes don’t come from thin air, and sponsoring this summit are some big names. GitHub, which should be recognizable to anyone familiar with computer programming, is a Hackathon Partner, along with CoinGecko, a cryptocurrency price tracker and data provider. Other Hackathon Partners include the Indian peer-to-peer exchange, CXIHub, blockchain scalability platform MATIC, and the blockchains Harmony and Elastos.

Virtual Event Partner, Airmeet will be hosting the summit on its platform. The blockchain-based education and career platform, Zubi.IO, is also on-board as a Community Partner, alongside cryptocurrency media company IBC Media, enthusiast community Blockchained India, and blockchain solutions firm, BlockTEST.

Media Partners include various cryptocurrency news-media agencies like CoinCrunch, Blockmanity, CoinGape, AMBCrypto, CryptoNewsZ, and CoinPedia. Other Media Partners include Bit2Buzz, a marketing and PR agency for crypto-based firms, and blockchain learning platform Cointelligence.

A Global Blockchain Hackathon

Other than the $13,000 up for grabs, DecentralHacks will also feature mentor sessions, where participants will be able to interact with experienced blockchain developers and hone their skills. For programming masters and newbies alike, this is a great opportunity to learn, explore what’s possible, and create new applications.

From August 21 to 28, hundreds of developers will go through the different phases of the hackathon, including an ideation phase, where participants flesh out ideas, and a development phase, where they will develop them into real-world applications. With experienced mentors at their dispense, participants will also be able to see how their ideas could help the broader ecosystem and inspire more new developers to work in the space.

A Dynamic Space

The blockchain industry is constantly changing at a breakneck pace. Keeping up with the community can be both daunting and rewarding, but watching it unfold in real-time is nothing if not fascinating.

It’s easy to get lost in the endless stream of news, updates, and additions to the space, and while technological improvements are certainly crucial for the mainstream adoption of blockchain networks, it’s important to remember the communities behind them. A decentralized network is nothing without its participants, and strengthening these networks requires carefully nurturing the comprising communities.

Blockchain has come quite a way from its infancy over a decade ago and is still very much in its infancy. As the technology continues to improve and cater to more use-cases, events like these are a gentle reminder that it’s the communities that raised these blockchains and not the other way around.
